Johnny W. Green (1841-1920) served In the Orphan Brigade throughout the war and was discharged with the rank of regimental sergeant major. An acute observer with a flair for descriptive writing, Green kept an action filled record of his experiences that is perhaps one of the most engaging accounts of the war on the western front.
